FINGER CANDY FRIDAY - MAKE TWITTER WORK FOR YOU AND YOUR LISTENERS I have been looking all over the web at stations around the country and how they are using Social Media, in particular Twitter. I see a common thread where participation is lower than it could be. From experience I know that it is hard to sell what you don’t understand….not to mention feeling threatened by Web 2.0 replacing you. FORGET THAT! You are all Trendsetters and you know it. People actually do what you tell them to do. If you can pass along what Twitter can do for listeners by learning what it can do for you, you can sell it. If I can be of assistance just ask. I can do brief audio/screen capture webinars on any question you have and walk you through aspects of Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Fan Pages, Ping, bit.ly, Twitterfeed, Twollow, Blogger, etc. Here are some ideas for you to use Twitter to benefit from: Personal branding – you can use twitter to establish your socialality by connecting with people and being approachable….build trust=build relationship. Getting feedback about your company or yourself – you can find out what people really think; good and bad Hiring people/outsourcing jobs – there are so many people on twitter and you can get anything you need from bar mitzvah info to ballerinas Directing traffic back to websites – when people click on your profile, 9 times out of 10 they will click on your website to see what you are about. Emergency news updates – including Amber alerts, weather, traffic Making new friends – most of my current BFF’s I met on Facebook, MySpace or Twitter (no kidding) Use it as a To-do or grocery list, take notes – you can tweet at yourself from your phone Business management – connect employees like an intranet Customer correspondence – let them know about new products and services Event updates – provide live coverage for any event, let participants know what’s going on and any changes Find prospects or people looking for your product – you can search and follow key words Time management analysis - use as a detailed record of what you are doing every day Virtual meetings - use as a group chat Jessica is the Social Media Editor for Full Throttle Country-an interactive idea sharing and new media on-line service for Country Music Radio Programming.   1. Twitter is an amazing tool that can open up doors that are near impossible to open anywhere else. Take the time to learn how to use it effectively, provide value, don't spam, and you have one incredible marketing tool at your disposal...and a FREE one at that!
