I have always been a huge believer that you have to image and sound design special times and days. June 21st is the first day of summer and last year at KHGE Fresno, we played special Summer sweepers into Summer songs. All Summer Long, Indian Summer, Summer Nights, there are quite a few titles you can play. I heard the Country Time Lemonade spots last summer and the read with the effects, conjured up thoughts of Summer. So we used those as a template for a series of Summer sweepers.
July 4th and Labor Day programming are important. We've used handles before like "Taking Labor Day off and you work for us", The Valley 500 race-theme countdown for July 4th and Memorial Day. It gives the station a chance to open up and play music that is not normally part of the play list. The imaging becomes cinematic, the NASCAR-themed imaging for a race styled countdown is memorable and fun. How many times have you heard a Country station do a theme holiday or special programming with not one piece of separate imaging?
