DO YOU HAVE A PLAN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

The late Rick Sklar wrote in his auto-biography "Rockin America", while programming the great WABC, there has to be a plan in case of national, regional and local emergency. He said he learned from the Kennedy Assassination that he wasn't prepared and either was radio for what was to come.

When I was with Capstar in Baton Rouge, we had a hurricane emergency plan. Some of what we delveloped in 1997 was used in New Orleans and Baton Rouge during Hurricane Katrina. Planning for emergencies should be part of your operations planning.

Recently in Fresno, a Deputy Sheriff and a local law enforcement officer were shot and killed serving a warrant. I suggested to a local station cluster to host a benefit and they did. A concert at at a local mall's performance venue. With proceeds to benefit the fallen heroes families.

There cannot be a business as usual attitude during a local or national crisis.
