Wednesday Morning Meeting for February 10, 2010:

It's Snowing. Go Sell Something!

Al Roker's report this morning confirms that just about half the country has been on the receiving end of a nasty winter storm.  At the office yesterday, I can confirm that I was on the receiving end of a few ad reps calling to cancel appointments today and tomorrow for fear of the great blizzard of 2010.  Wait a second....  not one ad rep called to say that their station was putting together additional winter weather coverage and do I have any clients who would like to sponsor reports.

Have we given up?  Have we downsized so much that the creative juices are gone?

During extreme weather, radio shines (even in the age of social media)!  Everyone will be tuned in to the radio to find out weather, traffic conditions, school conditions, and other states of emergency.  EVERYONE!  Um, I'd kill to have some clients on your airwaves 2-4 times per hour as you blast out the info that people need to hear.  Or are you just voice tracked?

You could have made a mint today. From Today's Inside Radio:

Marketers tie radio to weather.
Winter rages, but some radio advertisers see wild weather as an opportunity. Using consumer products sales data and dozens of other metrics, they are increasingly aligning advertising budgets to what Mother Nature delivers. For radio, that can mean additional revenue.
