Finger Candy Friday on Thursday: Social Media in 2010...Predictions, Observations, Ideas.

I started this thought collection the other week and have gathered such great information. I find it interesting to hear your thoughts, ideas and predictions about Social Media in 2010.  I wonder what it would have looked like if I said 2020? Another  time....it is my greatest hope that you are enjoying the festivities of the season!  I have been spending time with American family visiting from the Middle East.  They use Social Media the same as us, but for them it is even more important, it is a tool to break away from the shackles of censorship. As we sit safely behind our desk, or in our homes the thought of the powerful ability to transfer our messages to the world is not what we are generally thinking.  We just want to be heard and feel important in society or maybe we are looking to sort through our own observations and diary them for future generations.  As we grow towards the future it is very evident to me how we search less for information as it seems to find us! Anytime I turn on my computer I am instantly greeted with local and National news.  I remember having to wait for the traffic report on the radio or the local news on the 10’s.  I can text, click or call to find out anything I want or need now. So we know how our audience uses media, what are we doing to be there with them as they consume?
Merry Christmas Eve and ENJOY!

"The Home Depot continues to look to social media as new and effective ways to reach customers.  We have just launched a Home Depot iphone application and have a position on our .com team that is specifically dedicated to utilizing social media for our goods and services."
Henry Ferris, Director of Merchandise Marketing Home Depot Corporate Atlanata

"SOCIAL MEDIA HAS BEEN INFLUENTIAL IN ESTABLISHING FULL THROTTLE COUNTRY AS THE PREMIERE ON-LINE SITE FOR COUNTRY PROGRAMMING IDEOLOGY. THE USE OF FACEBOOK AND TWITTER TO MARKET HAS BEEN THE KEY TO WORKING SOCIAL NETWORKING."
Chuck Geiger, Managing Editor FULL THROTTLE COUNTRY

"For my clients, video blogging and regular 'webisodes' will be a mandatory component of any marketing plan.  Not only does a piece of video content help you go viral exponentially, it gives you a great opportunity to continually shape your image and your story in a way that you can control 100%.  And, when people can see and hear you, it makes the connection to you that much stronger."
Michelle Fiddler, Artisanal Management

"The year 2009 marks the beginning of a mainstream trend: the publishing industry is making a serious move from print to electronic content, with a focus on using social networks for distributing content rather than on traditional print and mail methods.  It's not "business as usual" anymore."
Claudia Broman, freelance writer and Social Media Activist

"I predict Facebook will keep ballooning towards 500 million in 2010. Facebook Connect is currently only on 80k sites, so jumping up to 1M is a stretch but feasible."
Mari Smith, Social Media Speaker & Trainer.

"2010 will be the year when the definition of Social Gaming TRULY moves beyond Facebook games."
Mike Prasad, CEO/Co-Founder GirlGamer.com, Brand/Social Media Guy @KogiBBQ

"If Twitpic starts charging per post… Jimmy Wayne will have to get a second job!"
@AndieLynne, On-Air Personality, Comedian and Cup Holder

"In 2010 Mobile gaming will start to take off, with more people using smartphones (iPhone, BlackBerry, Droid, etc.) - games like Gowalla and Foursquare."
Dossy Shiobara, Creator of Twitter Karma

“Video blogging has grown tremendously over the last couple of years and when Apple releases it’s iTablet (or whatever it will be called) in 2010 you’ll see the number of vlogs (video blogs) explode.  For the last few years we’ve been telling our music clients that they need  to keep a webcam or Flip cam handy at all times.  Frequent video updates are proven to drive traffic to an artist’s website and their social sites.”
Kevin Mason, Director of Top Secret Projects-Nine North Records

"All of these avenues from Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Posterous, video blogging or whatever your poison is will come and go in phases. Look at the history of social media developments and their fads. People choose what works for them! What people used facebook for 5 years ago is much different than what they use it for today! Vlogging might be the next step for me as it is more personal!
Josh Tintner, Graphic Designer and Project Manager

"Everyone will realize in 2010 that social media is a huge fat waste of time and guaranteed $ loser, unless you are female and willing to show cleavage. There will be mass starvation as Twitterers desperately cling to their keyboards, trying to sell MLM crap and everyone else goes outside and sees the sun. They have a bake sale, and learn to eat again. Finally, only 1 human twitterer will be left, trying 2 convince the 1kazillion spambots to buy now. With everyone dead, only Twitter spambots shall remain, & they will hook up with Skynet and make glorious love.
Ladd Ehlinger Jr., Filmmaker

  1. Jess... You're up too early. Or LATE! I suspect late because the last time I talked to you was about 11 PM last night. Good to see familiar faces. Hey, Bridgette.
    Love to all... Uncle Jim
